Spring– Summer 2017


This will be busy spring and summer with The S.A.L. Veterans Dinner and our Blue Star Banner Presentation on May 13th at Post 16, The Decoration of Graves, Memorial Day Parade & Services in May; as well as Flag Day, and the nomination and election of officers for the 2018 year which commences on July 1st.


Our 2018 begins July 1st 2017. Please pay your dues as soon as possible.

All Post 16 members are encouraged to join in Post activities. The American Legion’s success depends entirely on active membership, participation and volunteerism. The organization belongs to the people it serves and the communities in which it thrives.

The schedule for Memorial Day May 30th is as follows:

Assembly at Post 6:30 AM

White Hills FD 7:00 AM

Shelton Police 7:20 AM

River Walk 7:50 AM

Parade Muster 8:10 AM

Post Ceremonies 11:30 AM


A Veterans Dinner and Blue Star Banner Presentations at Post 16 May 13th, The Decoration of Graves, , Memorial Day Parade & Services in May, as well as Flag Day, and the nomination and election of officers for the 2018 year which commences on July 1st, Post Summer Outing August 6th Post 16 Family Members will be taking part in the Stadium Stair Climb to benefit Homes for the Brave on September 23rd

The following members have been transferred to Post Everlasting: Anthony Dinice, Russell Gamble, Steven Fillmore, and Francis Mayo.


Spring cleaning is on going in preparation for a busy summer.


The State Oratorical Contest was conducted on Saturday March 4th. Deloshene Krishaestittambalam was our representative and she took 2nd place in the state. This is her Junior year in High School and each year she has been working her way closer to 1st we are looking forward to her Senior year.


Post 16 is seeking Boys State Sponsors. Anyone that knows of a potential sponsor, please contact the post.


I look forward to seeing you at the many upcoming programs and events this summer and I encourage all Post 16 members to join us on Memorial Day at services and in the line of march. The parade starts in Shelton this year at 0900.



Auxiliary meets promptly at 7:00PM on the second Tuesday of the month at Sutter Terlizzi American Legion Post 16.


We will be selling Mother's Day Plants and Flowers on Friday May 12 and Saturday May 13 at Post 16.

Unit 16 will be holding a bake sale in May at the Post 16 Canteen.

Officers Election will be held in June. Please make it a point to attend this meeting.


If anyone hasn’t paid their dues please do so A.S.A.P. since the 2016-2017 year is soon to close. Don’t let your membership lapse.

Presidents Niche

The Unit will again be sponsoring young ladies for Girl's State. We are preparing for the selection process.

A.L.A. Scholarships are available on line and at the high school.

We need help with poppies if anyone is interested in helping please attend our monthly meetings.

Our Chili Bake-Off contest Super Bowl Party was very successful. Everyone had a great time and I thank all of you that attended and volunteered.


On Saturday May 13th at 5PM our squadron is hosting a dinner for all Shelton Veterans and American Legion Post 16 Veterans as a way for us to say thank you for what they have done for our nation.

We are in the process of planning renovations to the hot dog shed in April. The horseshoe season runs May thru September on Monday and Wednesday evenings. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Alan Kennedy.

The Annual Sons Picnic will be held Saturday, June 10th 10AM to 5PM. Donation of $25 until June 9th and $30 at the door. Menu includes; bacon and egg sandwiches, liver bacon and onion sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, chicken, roast pig, clams, baked beans, corn-on-the-cob, salads, watermelon, beer, soda and water.


Our present membership stands at 110 but there are still members that have not renewed. We would appreciate your prompt attention to this matter,if you have not already paid yet.


I take this opportunity to thank all of you for supporting our squadron. Remember on Memorial Day, May 29th., to honor the service and memory of those who have defended our nation. May you and your family enjoy the summer.
